About Shoe Width Chart
Why this site exists, what we cover, and how we approach shoe width information.
What This Site Is
Shoe Width Chart is an independent reference site dedicated to one thing: helping people find shoes that actually fit. We cover shoe width measurement, width codes, brand fit tendencies, and everything related to the width dimension of shoe sizing — the dimension most shoe-buying guides ignore entirely.
The site covers men’s, women’s, and children’s shoe widths, with charts, guides, and brand information built to be the most complete and accurate resource available on the topic.
Why We Built It
Most shoe buying guides focus on length sizing and treat width as an afterthought — a footnote that says “wide widths available” without explaining what that means, how to measure for it, or how it varies between brands. The result is that an estimated 40% of people are wearing shoes in the wrong width without knowing it.
Wrong shoe width is the leading cause of bunions, neuromas, hammertoes, and chronic ball-of-foot pain. It’s also one of the most fixable problems in footwear — a three-minute measurement and the right information is all it takes. This site exists to provide that information clearly and completely.
What We Cover
Every page on this site is built around a specific aspect of shoe width: measurement guides, width charts by gender and age, explanations of every width code used by US and international brands, brand-by-brand fit guides, condition-specific advice for wide and narrow feet, and international conversion tables for US, UK, European, German, and Japanese sizing systems.
For insole guidance — including condition-specific recommendations for plantar fasciitis, heel pain, and diabetic foot care — we recommend our sister site PainReliefInsoles.com, which covers the insole side of foot comfort in the same depth that this site covers width.
Our Approach to Accuracy
Width measurements on this site are based on industry-standard sizing increments — each width step adds approximately 1/8 inch (3mm) at the ball of the foot. Brand fit information is based on documented brand specifications and widely reported fit characteristics. Where brands deviate from their labeled widths in practice, we note it.
We update pages when brand width programs change, when new therapeutic options become available, or when reader feedback identifies inaccuracies. If you find an error or a brand we’ve missed, use the contact information below.
Independence
Shoe Width Chart is an independent site. We are not affiliated with any shoe brand, retailer, or manufacturer. Brand mentions reflect our honest assessment of fit characteristics and width availability — not paid placement. Some pages contain affiliate links to products we reference — these are marked and do not affect our recommendations.
